Flames Defeated in Game Seven

Tampa Bay Captures First Championship

DENVER, Colo. -- The Tampa Bay Lightning have won the 2004 Stanley Cup, defeating the Calgary Flames in seven games. The Lightning captured their first-ever championship with a 2-1 victory in Game 7 at the Pepsi Center in Denver on Wednesday night.

Martin St. Louis scored the game-winning goal for the Lightning with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third period. Brad Richards added an empty-net goal in the final minute to seal the victory.

Calgary's lone goal came off the stick of Jarome Iginla in the second period.

Lightning goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin made 25 saves to earn the win. Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 23 shots for the Flames.
