Trans-Canada Highway 1 Closure in Fraser Canyon Extended
Extended Closure Due to Maintenance
The Trans-Canada Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon remains closed Thursday, more than 12 hours after an initial closure. The closure is due to maintenance work between Platt Road and Grouhel Road. The province has issued a warning to drivers that Highway 1 outside of Hope, BC, will be closed 10 times a day for this work.
Impact on Traffic
The closure has impacted traffic in both directions, with delays of up to 30 minutes reported. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes or plan for additional travel time. The closure is expected to continue for several hours.
Safety Concerns
The maintenance work is necessary to ensure the safety of the highway, which has been closed since November 14, 2021, due to damage caused by heavy rainfall. The province advises drivers to obey all posted signs and speed limits, and to avoid unnecessary travel on the affected section of the highway.
